India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has committed to strengthening trade relations with countries around the world in the face of a potential rise in US tariffs. The US’s proposed tariff hikes on Indian goods could significantly disrupt key sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, and machinery. In response, the Indian government is focusing on building more robust trade partnerships with countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Sitharaman stressed that diversifying export markets and enhancing global trade relationships are vital strategies for reducing dependency on the US. Additionally, the Indian government is working to improve domestic infrastructure and offer financial support to industries that are most vulnerable to the effects of tariffs. The government is also exploring various legal avenues to challenge the tariffs at international trade forums like the WTO.
