The Supreme Court of India has instructed the Union Government to develop a clear regulatory framework to control the distribution of obscene content across the internet. This comes in response to growing concerns that such content is easily accessible by all, including minors. The Court emphasized the urgency of crafting laws that will help prevent the spread of harmful material on online platforms.

As internet usage increases, the issue of inappropriate content has emerged as one of the major challenges facing India’s digital landscape. The Court’s directive is seen as a move towards ensuring that the internet remains a safe environment for everyone, particularly for young audiences who are more susceptible to harmful content.

The government is expected to examine existing digital content laws and propose more effective measures to curb the access to and sharing of obscene material. This may include measures such as stronger regulations on social media platforms, more rigorous monitoring systems, and fines for companies failing to comply with content control laws.
