BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand: PM Modi Champions Regional Prosperity and Security

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Thailand for the 6th BIMSTEC summit highlights India’s commitment to fostering regional prosperity and ensuring long-term security in the Bay of Bengal region. As leaders from seven nations gather in Bangkok, the summit will focus on deepening cooperation on issues ranging from economic development to security concerns in the Indo-Pacific.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) provides a platform for India to engage with its neighboring countries—Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal—to address shared regional issues. PM Modi’s leadership in this context is pivotal to the region’s future economic integration.
During the summit, PM Modi is expected to underscore India’s role in promoting economic development through regional connectivity, both physical and digital. Projects like the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway are likely to be highlighted, as they represent critical infrastructure for improving trade and mobility across the region.
Security, especially maritime security and counter-terrorism efforts, will also be high on the agenda. As a region surrounded by vast oceans and maritime trade routes, BIMSTEC countries are deeply invested in ensuring security for regional prosperity. PM Modi is expected to advocate for stronger collaborative security measures to safeguard the region against common threats.
The summit will offer an opportunity for India and its partners to chart a future of collective progress, with an emphasis on economic collaboration, sustainable development, and regional peace.
